Ms. Robin Graham is a proud mother of four boys who had to take on the task of parenting alone. She knew her job would be a tough one--afterall, it's difficult enough to raise a brood of four with help...imagine having to go at it alone.
But instead of giving up, she drew on her inner strength and decided to start up a publication that focuses on reaching out to people in need.
"Spotlight On Recovery" is a fantastic magazine that helps to make the connection between those going through tough times and those who can help them. The articles in the magazine are mostly written by those who've been there and can offer advice and insight. The best way to help is to draw upon the resources and strength of many people. I've always said we go through things in life for a reason--good and bad--and we can use those experiences to help others. I try to do that each and every day. And so does Ms. Graham.
Please, visit her newly re-vamped website today and see what she does. I've had the honor of speaking with Ms. Graham, as well as writing for her magazine. She is doing wonderful work to reach out to others and encourage others to reach out and, to me, deserves recognition for her work.
I'll continue to update her page with interviews, current magazine issue notices and other announcements.
UPDATES: The September issue of "Spotlight on Recovery" focuses on the truth about college life. This is definitely a must-read issue for parents of college-aged children going off to school. Robin has a son who'll be going off to school this fall and she did a fair bit of investigation to assure her son would not only get the best education possible but that he would be safe in doing so. She tackled the following questions:
- Has your school had any incidences with guns, drugs or alcohol abuse? If so, when was the last incident and how did your administration deal with it?
- How many suicides or suicide attempts have you had at your school?
- What support systems do you have in place to help students who may be dealing with addictions?
"We all know that college is a place with many secret doors," Robin said in her introduction to the issue. "We must keep our doors open to our children and allow them a safe haven even when they make mistakes. We have to put the college on notice that we are not just going to give over our child and our hard earned money, if they do not have safety first policies at their schools."
SO true. Please check out this issue and also see what Robin is seeking in terms of stories for her future issues. Robin wanted me to let you know she's putting a call out for articles on the following subjects:
- Empty Pockets: SurvivingThe Financial Crisis
- Organ Donor
- Harassment OnThe Job
- Vasectomy: Men HaveChoices Too
- The Power of Love
- Living in Fear
- I Am The Parent Of AnAddict & This Is My Story
Please email Robin at rgraham_100@msn.com. She's asking for works to be no longer than 800 words and chosen stories will be published in an upcoming issue of Spotlight On Recovery. Why don't you give it a try today?
