MEET DIANE RENNA AND HER DAUGHTER, MEGHAN

What alot of us forget when we're helping our children with SPD is that the disorder isn't just about how the child's body reacts to sensory stimulation. It all traces back to the brain and its inability to process the information it receives properly. When the brain isn't healthy, the body ends up becoming unhealthy too because, after all, the brain is what tells everything else in the body what to do. So the healthier we make our brains, the healthier our bodies will be and the more able the body can withstand and cope with what it comes up against.

That's how I've learned to help my Jaimie. And what I admire most about Diane Renna is how she did just that to help her gorgeous daughter, Meghan. Through a combination of natural, holistic therapies, Diane helped Meghan cope with SPD by healing her mind and body together. Theirs is a truly touching and inspirational story which Diane captured for Meghan in the children's picture book, Meghan's World: The Story Of One Girl's Triumph Over Sensory Processing Disorder.

We had the pleasure to sit down with Diane for our January 2009 issue of the newsletter for an insightful Q&A. (If you aren't a subscriber to the newsletter and would like a copy of the issue with Diane's interview, please email us.) I felt this was an extremely important interview because not only is Diane a fountain of information for going the holistic and diet treatment route but she's also a ray of hope to those parents whose young children have only just received their SPD diagnosis. Today, Meghan is a vibrant, healthy and gorgeous 12-year old girl. Looking at her smiling face certainly gave me courage to keeping moving forward with Jaimie's treatment, knowing that what we're doing is making a difference.

Please visit Diane's site today and get to know her, and Meghan. On her fabulous site is information on the methods she used with Meghan as well as different resources for SPD therapies. You'll also find information on how to access her book. I've added it to my personal library!

Thank you, Diane, for sharing your story. You are an amazing mom to an incredibly inspirational young woman.

Here's Diane's Bio:

Diane M. Renna resides in Long Island, NY with her husband Lorenzo, and their children, Meghan, Michael, and Gavin. She left working as an administrative assistant in NYC to become a stay-at-home mom in 1998.  Diane, Meghan, and Michael are all affected in some way with sensory integration dysfunction.  However, Meghan's sensory issues were more severe and affected her daily life tremendously.  Diane read and learned all she could about SPD to help her children.  She never complained or gave up hope.  She investigated and tried alternative therapies with the vision of helping her children.  She understood and wanted to make their world a safe and comfortable place.

Diane has dedicated her time to helping children with SPD and feels passionately about the subject.  She wants to reach and help as many families as possible.  Presently, the Renna family is happy, healthy, and enjoys doing the things they were not able to in the past.  SPD is no longer a jail-keeper to their lives.  Diane and her family hope Meghan's story will inspire and heal other families dealing with SPD.
