Back Print Page Email Page

This page is for all the 'cool tools'! Everything from chewy toys to vestibular or proprioception stuff to fidgets. If it gets the nervous system going, you'll find it here.

We are constantly looking for new 'cool tools' so if you have one and would like it reviewed and/or added here, let us know!

Gentle Gecko: These colorful, wonderful, weighted geckos help children with sensory issues to relax and calm. Each soothing gecko is about 32" long and weighs about five pounds. A stuffed pet and a big help for children who need the extra weight to feel grounded. Filled with non-toxic milo (a type of birdseed) these gentle creatures have a soft, soothing top that makes them irresistable.  Weighted items should always be used with adult supervision and talk with your child's occupational therapist to ensure that the proper amount of weight is being used for the therapy needs of your child.  The gentle gecko comes in a variety of colors.

28 Instant Songames (MaBoAubLo and Barbara Sher MS, OTR) : Surgency is a term associated with the work of infant temperament specialist, Dr. Mary Rothbart. A neuro-developmental term, surgency means "a child's avid interest in exploring the environment, in approaching things that are new." 28 Instant Songames is great fun for typical children, as well as those with special needs.

BeeVisual, LLC™ : As stated on their Website, BeeVisual was "...founded to help improve the communication between children and caregivers. The Choiceworks™ Visual Support System incorporates the use of pictures and choices in a practical and easy-to-use format to help children learn social skills, develop self control, and complete daily routines."

DOKEDOPUTTY:  As I mentioned in our April newsletter our newest sponsor is Dokedoputty. Tina Cambio is passionate about her fabulous product and I can definately see why. Her product has been included in celebrity gift baskets and supported on the SPD Foundation. Tina is all heart and soul with a generous portion of sales going to Autism foundations around the country. **NOTE: The name of this company has changed recently and we are trying to loate an updated link. We'll update this asap. Sorry for the inconvenience.** (June 26, 2010)

Hugz4Me: How exciting to see amazing Canadian companies! Debbie Neville has a wonderful Website not only offering insight and resources but products as well! She offers tools with weight and 'squishing', fidgets and other amazing tools. Do check her out. (We'll be doing an interview with Denise in the near future so you can learn more about her and her products.)

Innovaid: Another amazing Canadian e-Store for caregivers and therapists with sensory issues and SPD. They offer weighted vests, blankets, neck cozies and other wonderful products. They are located just outside of Edmonton in Sherwood Park. They have an amazing story and we'll be chatting with Diane Lutzny about the amazing things she's doing through Innovaid.

Moby Wrap, Inc: I wished I'd known about this wonderful product when Jaimie was a baby! This is a baby carrier that keeps baby close, snuggly and right up against you. My Sophie spent ALOT of time in hers--I actually had to give it up because she got to heavy for me! They come in a variety of colors, patterns and you can carry baby on your front, back, side, kangaroo style or even carry two babies at the same time (if you can!)

Pacific Pediatric Supply: A fantastic Online store to buy everything sensory for all seven senses. We've bought several items from them.

Sensory Edge: This fantastic store offers furniture, 'sensory friendly' classroom items, rugs and more! It's geared towards educators but you can definitely purchase items for your home sensory place.

Sensory World: Part of Future Horizons that focuses specifically on all that is sensory. You can purchase Carol Stock Kranowitz's books and tools here as well as books from the incredible Temple Grandin.

Southpaw Enterprises: This fantastic e-Store has everything from from fidgets to gym equipment. They sell alot of things for therapists or clinicians but the individual can certainly buy from them too. They have a disclaimer on their site too you should be aware of when shopping around for similar products, "It has come to our attention that other companies have been replicating and selling imitation Southpaw products. Since quality and safety is of the utmost importance to us and to our customers, we want you to be aware of this situation. When purchasing Southpaw products from someone other than a Southpaw Enterprises representative directly or through our website, please verify with the person you are speaking with that you will be receiving authentic Southpaw products. If you have any questions or concerns about a product you are interested in purchasing, please call our customer service line at 800-228-1698."
