SPD Resources: COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Back Print Page Email Page

One of my favorite things to help promote are community resources: people reaching out to people right where they live.

This is a selection of our favorite places out there. Please feel free to contact us with any and ALL of helpful places for families to get information, direction, and support. We'll check them out and add them, if they're acceptable!

Thanks!

SPD Foundation: This site was created by Dr. Lucy Jane Miller. This site is the primary source for caregivers of sensational kids. You'll find information, resources, research updates and so much more. If you have just gotten an SPD Diagnosis, this is THE place to start.

SPD Canada: What an absolutely phenomenal resource tool for all parents, teachers or anyone else to must deal with sensory sensitive children. Here we have resources, links to community outreach programs and product information. As President and Founder, Lori Fankhanel says, "I've worked hard to take the "dis" out of "disability"." and she has. Please add SPD Canada to your favorites:  http://www.spdcanada.org

SPD Evolution: I was sent a link to a fantastic video featuring Dr. Lucy Miller, who's written several books on the subject of SID/SPD and currently participating in the 6th Annual SPD symposium through the KID Foundation. Please check it out: http://cbs4denver.com/video/?id=39262@kcnc.dayport.com&cid=40

SPD in the news!! Lori Fankhanel, the founder of SPDCanada was on Global Edmonton with the phenomenal Kathy Mulka from Unlimited Potentials (who is Jaimie's OT!!). This is a must see piece for parents, friends, teachers or therapists of SPD children. Click on the link above then, after you watch the clip, be sure to write the station and tell them they should offer more information!!

Xanadu Behavioral Therapy: A phenomenal private agency that helps children with Autism and similar disorders with communication, behavioral and social issues. New Jersey area.

SENSORY TIME

I came across a fantastic community resource for families learning to cope with SPD. If you're in Murrieta, California or close to there, you're in luck.

This is a new indoor play facility specialy designed for children with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder and other special needs. The founder, Lauren Allums, is an occupational therapist who saw a need for these families and took the initiative to make it a reality. We'll be conducting an interview with this amazing woman, and her fantastic Marketing Specialist, Stacey Robinson, in a future issue of our newsletter. Please go to their website at www.sensorytimecenter.com and see what they offer and what they're all about. You'll feel the warmth of their caring the second their site uploads.

You can now see our chat over at "The Gift" blog. We also featured Stacey in our "Parent's Eyes" Section of our January newsletter. If you'd like the issue, please contact us.

(Thank you, Stacey, for contacting me about your phenomenal site.)
